Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC)
The HVAC/R Technician Program at Historic Carver Technical Education Center (HCTEC) provides students with the technical knowledge and hands-on training required to install, maintain, and repair residential and light commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This comprehensive program combines classroom instruction with practical lab experience to prepare students for successful careers in the skilled trades.
Students learn fundamental concepts in electricity, refrigeration cycles, system components, troubleshooting, and safety. Training includes the use of industry-standard tools and equipment, reading schematics, and following environmental and energy efficiency regulations. The program emphasizes employability skills, professionalism, and industry certification preparation.
Required Program Courses and Ceritifications:
- ACR0000 – Introduction to HVAC/R (250 hrs): Safety practices, hand and power tools, basic electricity, and refrigeration fundamentals
- ACR0001 – HVAC/R Fundamentals (250 hrs): Installation procedures, piping, air distribution, preventive maintenance, and environmental safety
- ACR0012 – HVAC/R Service Practices (250 hrs): System diagnostics, troubleshooting, refrigeration cycle analysis, and performance testing
- Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for:
- NCCER Certification
- EPA Section 608 Universal & R-410A Exam
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety
- Certificate of Completion – HVAC/R Technician
